  • Had to file a Better Business Bureau for false advertizing. My best friend and I purchased Dove Spa vouchers from Buytopia in December to celebrate our birthdays. The voucher had an expiry date and said "subject to availability," but made no mention of any days of the week being excluded. When I called in December to book the appointments, the spa told me they would only honour the vouchers Tuesdays through Thursdays. I asked to speak to a manager about the fact that this condition wasn't listed in the deal's terms, and was told that she wasn't there but that she would call me back. I never heard from her. I called a second time to speak to the manager and was told again that she would return my call. Again, I never heard from anyone. After several emails and phone calls to Buytopia, the Buytopia customer service rep contacted the spa directly and called me back to say that the spa chalked it up to a miscommunication and told her they would be happy to book us in for any day. I called the spa again to book our appointments for a Saturday and this time I was told that they would not honour the vouchers on Fridays or Saturdays. When I once again told the employee that this isn't listed anywhere on the voucher, she put me through to the manager. Once I told the manager that I wanted to book on a Saturday, because the conditions of the voucher said I could, she was determined not to help me. She told me they were just "too busy on Fridays and Saturdays to honour Buytopia vouchers." This would be totally acceptable...if the voucher or the deal's webpage said so. I bought these vouchers BECAUSE they didn't have any restrictions as to days of the week. This manager told me that because the voucher said "subject to availability" they could just pick and choose what days they were willing to honour it. "Subject to availability" means that a particular time may be booked up and thus no longer available. It does not mean "we can refuse to serve you whenever we feel like it." This is deceitful, this is false advertising, and this is abysmal customer service.
