| - Really needed a new primary doctor to help me with a specific issue and saw generally good reviews of Dr. Hajbandeh so I tried him out. It seemed all good the first visit and he seemed ready to help - however the following visits became nothing but him ignoring my worries, my questions, and my actual issue for being there in the first place as he was more concerned with the fact I'm overweight than the crippling - and proven by imaging at that point - problem I'm facing.
I'm not talking dumb shit like "fatshaming" or anything whiny like that - he wasn't a dick about it and I wouldn't really care if he was, but he just had absolutely no interest in helping me with the actual reason I was seeing him and was entirely obsessed with dealing with my weight and bad cholesterol instead. This seems to be a common situation these days based on how much talk and how many reviews there are all about that exact issue happening from doctors all around the nation.
I'm fine working on those issues but not while I'm in debilitating pain from a problem that has no relation to my weight or cholesterol at all according to basically every single other medical professional l've talked to about it and every medical journal piece released in the past two decades about this specific issue. I understand how serious obesity and cholesterol can end up but at this point I couldn't give a shit less if my heart stopped because the pain and inability to do anything I'm already facing is so terrible as it is. Losing weight may help with recovery, but that's about it - and cholesterol has literally no bearing on anything I'm going through.
One of the visits I made because the pain had spread and worsened substantially in a very short period of time and his response was simply "what do you want me to do about it?" - not in a rude condescending way but in a way that made it clear he had no interest in the problem and was genuinely baffled that I was there telling him things that he felt he had nothing to do with. Instead he just, yet again, complained that I still drink soda and don't eat an egg for dinner.
Basically Hajbandeh is the type of doctor who picks what he cares about and ignores what you're there for if it isn't what he wants to focus on. Sorry but "this might cause problems in the future" is absolutely not more important than "this is causing massive problems NOW". If I wanted a health guru to tell me to stop eating Taco Bell and stop drinking soda I wouldn't be seeing a doctor about a fucking neurological issue.
I'd say maybe he's good if you have no immediate problem and just want a new PCP...but even then he was terrible at answering questions or addressing my concerns if they, again, were not about my weight or cholesterol so he's probably bad for that too. Based on other reviews it seems it's not even that he has a problem with just fat people specifically - but really anybody that he decides has some negative personality trait that he dislikes such as drinking alcohol, wanting medication, or being obese. Many of the reviews actually mirror similar issues to mine - come in for a specific issue and have him obsess over something completely unrelated. A very quickly judgmental person who practices medicine based on those judgments and ignores the problems you come to him with because certainly drinking less soda would somehow do the surgical repairs my injury ended up requiring.
Also, when getting referrals here they don't bother actually giving you a referral - they just tell you to find someone yourself that'll take your insurance, let them know, then they'll send them the referral. Everywhere else I've ever gone not only gives you a paper copy of it for your own records/so you can go sooner - but they also try their best to find someone in your healthcare network who can see you and, you know, REFER YOU to somebody which is the entire point of a REFERRAL. This office just tells you to do it your fucking self and let them know when you have when it's actually supposed to be their job.
It's not that anyone here seems purposefully rude and none seem incompetent, but if you aren't there for what Hajbandeh wants to fix about you then you simply won't get helped.
