  • When I stopped in, I was immediately transfixed by the little donut maker. A hopper of batter drops little batter rings into hot oil, the donut cooks as it floats down the chute, then a spatula flips the donut to cook on the other side. The young lady at the counter greeted me and, learning this was my first visit, promptly handed me a warm, fresh donut coated in cinnamon and sugar. It melted in my mouth. There is a display of prepared donuts of varying degrees of fanciness, from cinnamon/sugar-coated ("Groovy" donuts), to frosted ("Far Out"), to frosted AND festooned with yummy nibbles ("Funkadelic" and "Signature). These are all prepared from a toppings bar featuring various frostings (vanilla, chocolate, maple, raspberry, strawberry, orange and cream cheese, banana, lemon and mocha) and toppings (Oreo, coconut, jimmies, chocolate chips, M&M's, Nestle's Crunch, and more). I ordered several kinds of donuts, expecting them to be taken off the display and put into a box, but instead, the employee made them fresh right in front of me. I don't know if they do this all the time, or only as time permits, but I will always prefer a warm donut over a cold one, so for me it was worth the wait. You can also invent your own combinations, and they'll do that for you too on the spot. Although I took my donuts to go, there is seating available. There are a few diner-type tables against the wall, and also cozy-looking beanbags on the floor for more casual seating. There appeared to be a shelf of books and magazines too, and a TV, in case people want to lounge for awhile. In the car, I nibbled some more. The donut taste, texture, and consistency was excellent. The frostings were thick enough to be substantial but not so think as to be overwhelming. My favorites were the cinnamon-sugar, maple bacon, banana split, and mocha, but they were all delicious. Let me say how much I love the donut size. I love to sample, but I also have poor discipline. I always intend to take just a bite of everything, and end up eating...everything. These donuts are just big enough to be satisfying, but small enough that I enjoy more than one before being full, or full of guilt.
