I will start off my saying that both my husband and I work sales. We understand the underwhelming "I'm just here to look around" and "We're just starting to shop". This, being the reason I stated what I did when we walked in: "we are HERE TO BUY 3 appliances". We needed a washer/dryer set and a dishwasher. We had just moved to the area the week before and were in the process of a major renovation. The girl behind the front counter couldn't have been bothered to get off her chair OR Facebook to greet us and welcome us into the store. Instead, she remained in her chair, phone and coffee in hand to look up over the desk to say "hi...". I filled in the blanks for her and asked "how are you?" Again, she did not even stand to tell us what we could have figured out for ourselves: "kitchen appliances are in this area (she points) and laundry in that corner (she points) and everything else is just spread out around the floor". Before I had stepped past the front desk, I made the decision not to spend the 4000$+ that we spent at a local competitor later that day. First impression is absolutely everything, and Coast: spend the extra 10$/hr to hire a young and enthusiastic front desk employee to save customers from having to be greeted by the shrivelled up bitter toad that "welcomed" us that day.
