We have been to the Oyster Bar at Palace Station so many times and we will many more times in the future. It is the best place for gumbo we've found in the LV area. We've tried Southpoint and Sunset as well, but they are just not as good-and I'm not sure why.
Yes, you will wait in line so don't come starving. We tend to go early-before 11:00 and the line has already started to grow for lunch. Waiting is just part of it. You smell the pan roasts and gumbo cooking and see people eating and the anticipation grows. Then, it's your turn to get a seat at the counter.
We have tried a few things. We've had the pan roasts-usually Palace with chicken, crab, shrimp, andouille sausage-which are very tasty but seem kinda tame. Hubs had the Cioppino and I've had the shrimp scampi which are great too. But we really go to the Oyster Bar for one thing-the GUMBO!!
First thing you have to know is how hot you like it. They give you a 1-5 with 1 mild and 5 is make-you-cry, remove-paint hot. I like it spicy but still want to taste my food so get a 3. I've tasted a 4 and couldn't feel my mouth for the rest of the day! Hubs gets a 1 because he can't take spicy foods and so he just gets the flavor of the food.
Then you decide which type you want. Hubs gets the House Gumbo that has lobster, shrimp and crab-everything that is good. He loves it and enjoys the flavor it gives to the sauce. I think the sauce hides the wonderful taste of the seafood so I just get the chicken gumbo with chicken and andouille sausage. I love the way the chicken shreds in the sauce and you get lots of andouille sausage which is my favorite part. The rice absorbs the flavors when you scoop it together.
The Oyster Bar is one of our favorite places to eat in LV and we go even though we no longer live there. We do highly recommend it-and may even see you in line!
