Although I've lived here since 2012, I just made it to the Bunkhouse for the first time. It's quite a nice place. I've been told that the original Bunkhouse, which seemed to be classified as a dive bar closed a few years ago and reopened under the umbrella of the Downtown project and Tony Hsieh's vision of an urban utopia. Long time fans of this place had mixed reviews. It then proceeded to close again and reopen in it's current state.
It has a very nice (and large) outdoor patio with a food stand out back. The sound is great and the drinks are priced reasonably. I was especially happy to be able to drink $2 Hamm's cans all night! I might be wrong, but it also seemed smoke free and I didn't see any ashtrays either. Maybe that's what the patio is for? Either way, I appreciated the fresh air!
So although I'll never know what I missed at the previous incarnation of The Bunkhouse, I know now that this is a good spot to see live music in the vicinity of DTLV and I'll definitely come back.
