Overrated. I tried the burnt almond torte and found it, along with other items at Prantl's, excessively sweet, and disappointing. Why do places like this with huge displays of stale cakes and over-frosted cookies attract so many customers, even though their quality is poor? Some alternatives with much better food: go to La Gourmandine (Hazelwood or Lawrenceville) if you want superb almond croissants (as good as the croissants in Paris, perhaps). If you love cake, try the Opera cake at Jean Marc Chatellier in Millvale. If I were ordering a wedding cake, I'd do it there. If you like poppyseed hamantashen, go to Allegro Hearth Bakery in Squirrel Hill!
Go to one of those three. Skip Prantl's.
