Looking for lunch off the strip and found Trattoria Nakamura-Ya. It is located in a plaza with Kung Fu Tea and other Asian restaurants and desserts. Parking is a bit of a struggle but I suggest parking in the lot cuz I've heard of car break-ins in the area. Trattoria Nakamura-Ya (I'll start abbreviating that to TNY...) has a pretty expansive menu of pastas and other entrees. They have a lunch special 7-days a week but the specials end earlier in the day on the weekends. Specials are around $8-$10 depending on the dish you order.
First, I suggest started with the garlic bread. Toasted baguettes with chunks of garlic and oil and bits or prosciutto. I think this was actually the best part of the meal.
For the entree, I ordered the Jidori Chicken pasta in a light tomato cream sauce. I thought he chicken chunks were nice and tender and not dry. The sauce was light but still had flavor. The pasta (spaghetti) was cooked well with a bite still. I think it needs a bit more flavor but a safe choice.
I got to try others that my friends ordered including the Miso Carbonara and Fettuccine Kinoko. I enjoyed the strong flavor of the Kinoko but the Miso Carbonara was a dud. It was so light that I felt that all I tasted was the taste of cooked spaghetti.
The food was decent depending on what you order but the service was great. The server was attentive and you can feel the detail the chefs put into the dishes they produce. The popular dishes such as the uni pasta and squid ink look very promising but also comes at a price ($22-$28) but I might take the plunge next time.
