Who knew finding good coffee in the dessert would be so difficult? After searching for awhile, we came upon this quaint little roastery. Often when searching for coffee in an unfamiliar area, I will Yelp for "coffee roaster" rather than Yelp's suggestion of "coffee & tea". I don't need a million Starbucks to pop up while I'm trying to find a good coffee place.
Desert Wind popped up in a strip mall, not too far from Violette's Vegan Cafe. You can tell immediately upon walking in that this coffee is legit. I mean, the owner is roasting it right in front of your eyes as you sip your coffee. How much more locally roasted do you want?
They have a basic list of traditional espresso drinks, as well as a small list of foo foo drinks, that they attempt to make unique. I didn't try any of the sugary stuff but the menu descriptions seemed pretty tempting.
We ordered a soy latte for my babygirl and a "Black Eye" for me. The latte was a decent standard latte. It was actually quite good by Vegas coffee standards. The Black Eye was where it was at. Two shots of espresso dumped into a cup of freshly brewed coffee. This is often my go to drink and it's done well here. Whether you call it a "red eye", "depth charge", "train wreck" or something entirely different, this is one darn good cup 'o joe.
I noticed somebody is Breaking Bad fan 'round here. I don't even watch the show and can notice several references to Walter White and company. They also had a lot of clever and witty coffee oriented signs of the Spencer's variety that adorned the walls. It's a pleasant, if small place to enjoy your coffee time.
