| - On paper, Les Suites Labelle looks like a great value. For about $100/night, the hotel is easy to find and ideally located near Square Berri (intersection of Rue Ste-Catherine and Rue Berri). You'll find a metro station, bank and internet café within 100 feet of the hotel. The hotel is entirely smoke free. The rooms are all suites with a full kitchen (fridge, sink, stove & all the pots & pans you need). And parking and an American style breakfast is included with each room.
In reality, a stay in this hotel is a miserable experience. Two words for you: hot water!!! Or a lack thereof. My first two showers at Les Suites Labelle were barely lukewarm at best. I went down to the front desk to complain, the clerk shrugged his shoulders and in a condescending tone said "Sometimes that happens when many people shower at once." That alone is enough to keep me from coming back. But it gets worse.
The 'smoke free' aspect of the hotel was not enforced - most nights the hallway stunk of smoke (except for New Year's Eve, when it smelled of pot).
And the garage is so narrow, I couldn't imagine driving down the blind, single lane two-way ramps in anything larger than a compact car. And to enter and exit the garage, you have to walk through a sketchy labyrinth of doors and stairs to exit on the street, then walk up the sidewalk to the hotel's main entrance.
And we returned from Montreal to find an unknown $80 charge on our credit card from the hotel - we'll be calling to find out what this was, but it certainly wasn't mention during checking, and we never received a bill or receipt.
The location is probably the only thing this hotel has going for it, but there are plenty of other hotels in the area. Needless to say, I'll never stay at this hotel again.
