| - This is my initial dealing with Dr. Agren. I found him to be a super intelligent, knowledgeable and well spoken. He was very thorough in explaining what was happening to my 14-year old daughter. He explained his philosophy and part of the treatment plan, while the nurse that did the skin allergy testing on my daughter filled me on the rest.
The picture does not do Dr. Agren justice, as he is more handsome in person. I would say Dr. Agren, just from this visit, is a cross between traditional western medicine and naturopathic, so maybe like an integrative allergist.
We have AmeriBen BCBS health insurance and he takes this, so this is great. The skin testing tested 60 things, 46 of which my daughter is allergic to at least on a moderate basis and some things very allergic or highly allergic to. That's a lot of things.
I brought my daughter in for eczema, which seems to be flaring up more the past 6 months or so. But after seeing what she was allergic to, which she is highly allergic to grass mixtures and mesquite trees, they are all over the place. No wonder the eczema was acting up a lot and she's had to use her inhaler a lot more.
The serum that Dr. Agren prescribes, which comes from their office, is a 5 month treatment plan. You take drops under your tongue of their serum. You daily gradually ramp up taking higher dosages of this serum over a 2 month period. After that, you get on a maintenance dosage for 12 weeks. That's 5 months total.
This serum isn't only comprised of the things my daughter is allergic to, but I believe close to 200 different things. The gradual ramping up of the serum is gently help the body rebuild the immune system so at the end of the total treatment, which can be from 2 years to 5 years, your body's immune system should be strong enough that you should no longer be allergic to these allergens, which can include animals and certain bugs.
We are scheduled for a followup visit in 4 weeks to see how my daughter is doing. After the 5 month treatment, you will get enough serum to last you 4 months. So, you only really need to come by the clinic 3 times a year. The serum is to be taken daily under the tongue. Nothing special, except that you can't eat 5 minutes before or after taking the serum.
No weekly allergy shots where you have to go into the allergist. No more testing, from what I can tell. Sounds great.
Hopefully this will cure my daughter of her asthma and eczema. Dr. Agren says he has about a 90% cure rate for asthma and I think in the 80+% for eczema. If this is really the case, I wished I had known about Dr. Agren in the first year of my daughter's life.
