  • My friends and I have been to Red Rock canyon twice so far to do two hikes: Calico tanks (5 stars) La Madre spring (1 star) We are definitely planning more trips because we enjoyed our last hike calico tanks soooo much. Let's start with the bad and end with the good hike La Madre spring BOOO! This was a terribly disappointing hike. It was strenuous enough to get you sweating and panting from hiking a moderate steepness but the end which should be the reward for your work was poor :( oh my it was a little tiny spring that smelled bad and looked like a swamp monster was about to come out and eat you. :( we do not recommend this hike. We went I wanna say late October of 2013 :/ not worth the hike. NOW calico tanks on the other hand :D wow were we stunned. The entire hike up there was gorgeous and scenic and FUN! We climbed and climbed and even got a lil lost but found our way quickly :) and just when we thought we reached our destination nope we still had way more to see. We even saw some wild life. There's even an area were hikers have stacked rocks together all over the place and it looks pretty awesome. We made our own little rock pyramid before leaving :) this hike is awesome and I'm sure we will be returning. The end view is so awesome. It's a view of the entire Vegas valley :) and a great spot to sit on the rocks and enjoy a lil picnic :) Will add more to this review the more hikes we go on :) red rock rocks lol
