  • This was my second experience with Vietnamese food. About a month prior to coming here, a group of friends went down the street to Vietnam's Pho. This was probably very unfortunate for Pho Van because their food was seriously lacking in dimension and flavor in comparison. The service was also pretty lackluster. A number of us ordered shrimp rolls -fresh or fried - and the waitress seemed very confused about who ordered what and originally brought out enough app plates for us, but then walked away still carrying two of them. When I asked her for them, she handed them over, then came back with two more plates that we didn't need. The fresh rolls were pretty good - not the best I've ever had, but not bad. The fried rolls were about half the size of the fresh ones, and the couple that ordered them felt pretty jipped. Our Pho's and soups came out without any event, but the add-ins that came with it was pretty lack-luster in variety. The broth itself was pretty bland, which made for a bland dish. We went in a large group and asked for separate checks, but there was a bit of confusion about how this worked. The waitress didn't really explain what to do very well. After waiting for about 20 min for our check and seeing no signs of our waitress, we asked another waitress for our checks. She came back promptly to inform us that if we were paying separately we needed to do all of that at the register. Once we got that straightened out, the actual check-out process was quick and painless. Bottom line - if you're in the strip and want Vietnamese, go a few blocks down to Vietnam's Pho.
