| - One of the other Yelpers mentioned this place was like the restaurant from the "Brunch Village" episode from Portlandia and they were absolutely right! Phoenix has its version of "Fisherman's Porch" and it does what it does well.
That being said, this place is not for everyone. If you are not gastro-venturous and willing to pay for being so, then this is probably not your scene.
I was actually happy to find that I literally beat the crowd Sat around 11am (there was absolutely no one in line when I placed my order and the second I was handed my number there was a line out the door..,?). They have an interesting service setup here, which again, only works for a place like this. It is quasi-counter service in that you order at the counter and are given a number and afterwards can choose your seat. They also have a coffeebar, where you see the japanese cold brew drips hourglassing above, where you can pick up your ordered beverages. Based on your number, your food is brought to your table.
I ordered the mexican benedict (warning, the sauce and chorizo do have a somewhat spicy kick to them) which was delicious. The potatoes in other reviews were mentioned as "mushy" but I did not find them to be so. They were not as crispy as they could have been, but definitely leaned towards the cooked rather than soft side. I also loved that they have a "coffee flight" of their japanese cold brews. The ones I sampled were the "straight", vanilla cocao, and an lemon jalapeno. The latter was the only one I did not care for. I could have had a full serving of the vanilla cocoa as the density of the coffee balanced out the sweetness of the flavoring and was just perfection!
I ended my meal with a portuguese donut, which is, imho, the lovechild of a beignet and indian fry bread, and I will say, their offspring was exquisitely delicious!
The space itself was great and I loved the rustic contempo decor. The patio seating area is a kind of shared space w/the entrance to the courtyard of the little shopping center they occupy. Parking is a little limted, but thankfully I didn't have any issues finding a space.
All in all, a fantastic experience and should I ever find myself in the downtown area (or short drive from Sky Harbor) again, I will make a detour.
