The BEST brisket that I have ever had!! People I have had brisket from MN to Chicago, KC to TX and Memphis to the Carolina's. The brisket at The Underground Butcher is outstanding!
The Underground Butcher was actually showcased on a cooking show a few years ago for their brisket sandwich. We stopped in a few years when we were in town and they were sold out. This time when we knew we would be in town, I had checked their website and noticed that they were now doing a brisket dinner. SOLD! We placed our order not knowing what we would be in for.
The Underground Butcher is such a cool place. They of course are a butcher shop but also have a killer looking list of sandwiches that they make for both breakfast and lunch. There of course are all sorts of cheeses and other good foods that you may pick up while you are there.
Never being the type to leave a place without a few more items we picked up a pack of hot dogs, some cured sausages and some cheese crackers. They packed up our brisket dinner which included corn bread, baked beans and cole slaw.
We were pretty excited to have brisket for dinner however as I had my first bite, that brisket practically melted in my mouth. Excellent smoke ring and flavor that would have Aaron Franklin impressed. Each bite as great or better than the previous bite. I was reluctant to try the cornbread as I was thoroughly enjoying my brisket however my wife kept going on and on about the corn bread. Well she was right. We thought the best corn bread we had ever had was at a place called Top o The River in Al. This was better, much better. Their corn bread was sweet, had real corn, had nice thick slices yet still was light. It was so good you don't need to add any honey or butter. It's just that good!
Extra kudos Kiyan for helping us reserve our order! We are already making plans to pick up brisket dinner here again, it is that good!
