Maybe it's fitting that my hundredth Yelp review ever is the RRHFM.
Going thee is like watching your life pass before your eyes in the best possible way.
Got there at 12:30 pm, stayed til closing at 5:30 pm. Saw everything. While the visual exhibits are wonderful if you like to look at song lyrics, costumes, guitars, and old radios, what really shines here is the historical film material showing in many places around the museum, the video presentations, and the careful work of the archivists in placing each artist in some sort of historical and social/political context. The written material accompanying each exhibit is just stunningly well done. Maybe it's because a lot of journalists are out of work and doing great work when they do get work. Maybe it's because there's actual love in the writing.
Highlights: The opening film that talks of a time before rock. Elvis. the Les Paul guitar story. Tina Turner. And putting the Stones and Beatles on opposite sides of the same room. Very smart.
22 dollars admission is well worth it. Meh cafe, but a great view of the big lake.
