  • The service is lovely here. The girl at counter is very sweet, and very helpful. I don't believe she is fluent in English, but she was very accommodating. Since the cakes at display don't have labels, I asked her what several of them were. Not only did she explain which cake was which, but she took the time to explain to me what each layer of the cake consisted of. Five stars to the girl! Now for the actual baked goods, which for me was alright. Run-down of samplers I tried: Egg tarts, mango mousse cake, macaroons. Egg tarts ($0.80/each): Disappointing. Not to say it was bad, but simply because it was not any better than a Chinese grocery store egg tart. I'm rather particular about egg tarts, and I might even argue a few Chinese grocery egg tarts are better than this one. Unlikely I will grab them from here again. (Sidebar: It's hard to make a bad egg tart, considering it's eggs and sugar.) Mango mousse cake (~$3/each mini cake): Good. I'm a bit of a hunt for an Asian mango mousse cake, and so I have been across a few bakeries for the cake sampling this cake. The genoise layer was decent, but it did not feel light enough and, in the most minor way, dry. The mousse was good, but I felt it was a slightly over sweetened. As for the mango mirror glaze, again, I felt it was a tad over-sweetened and it seemed (to me) to have a slight artificial taste to it. Perhaps the bakery did not use fresh mango puree for the mousse and the glaze and used canned instead? Because I noticed that the maroon fillings appeared to use artificial or prepared ingredients. I'm nitpicking here, because the mango mousse cake was good. However, it simply didn't feel like it was good enough for what I wanted it to be for. Macaroons (~$7 for six different flavours in one pack): Crunchy and not too sweet. About 4 cm in diameter and about 2-2.5 cm in thickness. I'm not too big on macaroons, so I can't comment much on them other than I ate them and it was nommy in my tummy. My flavour picks are the coffee, green tea, and lemon. Other than the crunchiness, I can't say I care for the other flavours (almond, berry, and some other unmemorable flavour). The filling for the berry macaroon was simply jam, and the almond filling was a bit heavy on the almond extract for my preferences. The macaroons are probably the best buy out of the goods I purchased. I wouldn't have purchased otherwise if it were not for Yelp and Chowhound. Worth trying. --- Parking is rather minimal at the plaza where Tokyo Bakery is located (perhaps around 20-30 spots for 8 stores). I actually accidentally missed the plaza lot, and ended up parking in the Chinese auction store next to it.
