  • I searched yelp for a full on Spa experience while visiting the Phoenix area to spend the day and saw The Red Door Spa by Elizabeth Arden and instantly got excited. I booked a 50 minute Massage (side note: just give us the extra 10... sheesh) and was told we had access to the amenities at the spa for the entire day. Yippee. Parking was plentiful on the street and just outside the spa. Oh and you are going to do a short drive through a very nice golf community, but you're going the right way to The Wigwam Hotel. There are beautiful fresh red roses and flowers on the way in to the lovely spa area. Oh and you'll see the signature red door. Yay! Checking in was easy breezy - just filling out a one pager about any known issues you'd like your technician to be aware of. Standard spa things. One thing that I found strange was that we were to carry this piece of paper with us to hand deliver to our massage therapist. Can you say annoying? Especially when our Massage wasn't for another hour, so I needed to hang onto my life Massage history as if it were my homework from the night before to turn into my teacher. As my best friend in my head, Oprah says, "Love is in the details" and honey, I didn't feel the love in this minor yet major detail. When luxuriating at a spa, we should not have to worry about ANYTHING except where to lie down and this paper handling was way more than I cared to do. It would have been much more high end spa-like in my opinion if they took the paper and had some back office system for matching client with therapist. But I digress... we met the very lovely spa attendant who got us acquainted with the locker rooms (his name began with a D... very nice and attentive gentleman all day long). We immediately changed into our robes and because our massage wasn't for another hour, we hung out by the area where there is a lap pool heated to 85°. So nice! I was still holding onto my spa homework. There were towels and fresh lemon water available, which was a nice touch. The towels (pictured) have seen way better days. These could use an overhaul as well. The ends were frayed and the color in the stripes was just faded. Speaking of faded, it would have been so nice if this The Red Door included some type of wine or champagne service. There was lunch available from the Wigwam room service, but the options were scant. Chicken salad, cheeseburger, quesadilla & hummus trio. Every one of those items was $22. How on earth meat as well as beans only are the same price is very interesting. We were able to place our order for food when we checked in and then they brought the food to us at the pool. A very nice touch and even when we found something wrong with the food, they comped the meal and immediately got us something else. I thought that was nice. There also was no live attendant in the locker room, perhaps because the spa was not THAT busy on a Thursday, but again, for the high end nature of the spa, I would expect that to be available. On to the massage services. My therapist was John and oh my goodness!! He was outstanding! I told him where my sore areas were and he worked magic on my low back and neck and shoulders. If you're able to get John, GET HIM! My friend had Patricia and she was also amazing! Back out to the pool we went after our massages. Very relaxing. As I mentioned, the towels were a bit tattered and worn as was the padding on the pool chairs. Stains and overall not as fresh as one would expect. Inside the locker rooms, there is a sauna and steam room as well as a jacuzzi and outdoor shower. There are showers inside the locker room stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There was also lotion, mouth wash, hair dryers, hair spray, brushes. Everything you need to freshen up after your day at the spa. All in all, the service was great. Serene atmosphere. Clean facilities. A 5th star would be possible if they had a few more people on staff as the few that were there were kept busy with the food runs, etc. the massage therapy was excellent, the grounds were lovely. A great place to spend a day at the spa and get your total relaxation on.
