| - Alright, I'm gonna preface this in the interest of fairness with that we generally really like Baja Joe's. My fiancé used to come in here pretty often with co-workers, and we go for Taco Tuesday frequently. The menu is huge and almost everything has been really good. I am obsessed with the fish tacos and the chipotle sauce.
The thing I am steamed about is how we were treated last night.
We came in to have dinner and some drinks. Bartender asks what we want to drink. I noticed the big chalkboard sign on the wall, said "Oh look, $3 margaritas" and ordered one.
She brought it in a huge glass but we thought nothing of it, because that is what you will get for $4 Happy Hour at most Mexican joints.
The bill comes & it's $8. My fiancé flags a different bartender down & inquires. She says "Oh yeah that's a mistake, sorry... The blonde girl? Yeah it's her first night, I'll go get her".
Blonde bartender comes around the corner and I would never have guessed it was her first night, by the way she lectured us about it. "That was a BIG one, that was 18 oz. It's only for the smalls. We have a small and a large." We tell her we didn't ask for a big one, the sign didn't specify anything besides "Margs". She cops a fake sickly sweet tone and goes to fetch the bar manager.
Bar manager comes around the corner and before we can say a word, pops off with her own defensive tone. "The best I can do is bring it down to $6, because that was a big one".
That was the tipping point for me. We eat here enough that the waitresses recognize us. When fiance's coworkers want to go out after work, that's where they bring their business. This bar manager has met him enough times that her business card has been on our fridge for a couple years. We aren't asking for special treatment, and $5 is not a huge deal, but it felt like we were being baited and switched (honestly, it sounds similar to what some other reviewers mention). Then, especially being regular customers, for both a brand new bartender and the manager to speak to us like that really, really rubbed me the wrong way.
She eventually did take it back to $3, after I left in a huff & my level-headed partner reasoned with her. Damage done though. The entire time we were treated like morons, and we should not have had to go through 3 people and 4 conversations to get such a minor thing taken care of. It will be a long time before we go back if this is the new standard of customer treatment.
