| - I went here to support my friend's boyfriend who plays bass at their Wednesday night Jam Sessions (although this visit happened to be on a Saturday night.)
Live performances begin at 10:30pm. We showed up just in time for the first act and managed to snag booth (I am told this is rare.)
The lead vocalist was INCREDIBLE. Now, my BFA is in Musical Theatre, and I am a harsh critic when it comes to live performances, but the singer and his band were truly impressive (especially his scats.) My only complaint is that after about 2 hours, everything began to sound the same. So much so that it was sometimes difficult to distinguish what song he was actually covering. But that did not detract from the man's mean scat skills or extensive vocal range and use of passaggio.
It was off-putting to have a patron of the bar walk around after the band's first set to collect tips table-to-table. Especially considering that there was a mandatory $5 cover charge and one-drink minimum per person. (I ordered a Shirley Temple...it was $5.)
For food, I tried the Chicken Fingers with fries and they were quite good and real hot! Their homemade honey mustard is worth the $1 surcharge because it is BOMB. I dunked everything in that sauce down to the very last drop.
Ambience? It's small, it's smokey and reminiscent of the 70s (which makes sense, since that's how long it's been around.) Wooden, semi-circle booths, a non-functioning watermill against the back wall, carpet and fake ivy vines. I actually expected it to be far more packed on a Saturday night, but while the booth and bar were full, it actually wasn't overly crowded.
Honestly, not my favorite lounge, but the wait staff was friendly and I love supporting local artists so you'll likely catch me there future, supporting my friend.
