I made three, consecutive, big mistakes in one day. One torrentially rainy fucking day The first was leaving my lights on in my car. The second was when I realized my battery was drained I locked my car up, called my wife to bring her car and jumper cables, and left the damn keys in the ignition. The third was calling Madison Locksmith to help me out. As far as retrieving the keys goes they did that part very well BUT in my opinion what they had to do probably shouldn't have costed $68. It consisted of an inflator to wedge the door open and a little thing that went in through the door crack to pull the lock up. But I was in need and I was probably willing to pay whatever the cost to get back in my car. But since they were going to be there, and not having jumper cables on me, I asked them to do a jump as well, which was quoted as an additional $20! Whatever, I was desperate, let's do it. Unfortunately the man doing the job wouldn't take my assistance and didn't know how to properly charge a battery. In about 5 seconds he got the car to start and quickly detached the cables, took my card info and ran. I knew from the get go it didn't charge long enough and sure enough the car conked out as soon as I tried to pull away. I pushed my car back into a spot and quickly called for them to return, which they did this time. This guy again haphazardly through the cables on incorrectly, even touching them together and sparking them, let it sit for a few minutes more and took off. I know how to jump a car and knew this wouldn't work but I guess because I was so frustrated and with the rain coming down I just crossed my fingers and took off. I got a little further this time and then the car died down hill so I pull aside and pushed myself in to a parallel spot and called them one more time thinking I'll talk him in to letting me do it myself this time. But no, they say they won't return again. My 6 month old battery must be dead. WHAT!? I made sure they weren't going to charge me $100 if they weren't even willing to correctly jump the car. I'll explain how to charge a battery for those of you who don't know how. Turn both car off, all lights off et-cetera. Put the Red Positive cable on car #2 and then put same cable on car #1. Put the Black Negative cable on car #1 (the car with juice) but NEVER put the Black Negative cable on to car #2's battery terminal. Put in on a nice piece of metal to ground it. Two things can happen if you put it on the battery: it could cause an explosion or it could just drain the other battery down. Neither of which you want to risk. Now start up car#1 and let it sit for a few minutes to charge the battery before ever starting car #2. Start car #2 and continue to let the battery charge while revving car #1 a little. Remove the cable in the opposite direction making sure to NEVER touch them together and don't turn either car off. Then drive the car around for a while to build up the battery. Once I got my own cables there and did it myself, the correct way, I had no issues. When I got home I looked this place up and there are news reports on them talking about their poor business practices. These guys set up tons of fake locksmith companies in the phone books and online but it all goes to this one operator and they've been hurting all of the other local locksmiths. There have even been shady dealings with craigslist listings and much more. and beware of Madison Locksmith. When I double checked my account I had two pending charges from them, one for $100 and the other for $68, but thankfully the $100 charge was dropped.
