| - Everyone kept talking about this place, good and bad, so decided I should try it out.
A lot of the locals told me it was okay, and the non-locals said it was a 5 star must go to because of A. Bourdain's strong highly recommended review.
Made a reservation, took a minute finding it, and wasn't sure if I liked the decor once inside. Its a very small, cramped restaurant, with not so friendly waiters. Don't even get me started on the Chef.
Had 3 other people with me and one who had special dietary requests for extreme health reasons, and I of course still "pescatarian." And yes, I knew this was the place for a carnivore, I read the Au Pied De Cochon Recipe book & did my research before hand, so I wasn't in shock or being difficult.
My guests ordered:
Foie Gras Hamburger
Stuffed Pied de Cochon with Foie Gras
Fries (in duck fat)
and I ordered the Salmon Pie (something like that, seasonal)
If you're wondering what the other person's order was, it was nothing, because of his special dietary requirements. The Chef was SOOOOOO NOT willing to make him anything plain without sauce. So he sat there, and stared, not a bite to eat, which ended up being better.
Yeah, I get it, its the Chef's kitchen, and menu, but still, really!??!
Anyway.
The food we did order came and stayed. None of us were pleased, everything was in Duck Fat, so everything was SOOOOOO salty and drenched in sauce. We had such high hopes, and were saddened by the lack of deliciousness. No one did any damage to their meals, and we all left hungry.
They didn't even do their burger right, according to the person who ordered it. My Salmon Pie was worse than a microwaveable, boxed Banquet pie.
This place encouraged me to learn how to make my own Salmon Pot Pie and non cooked in Duck Fat French Fries.
