I love visiting the historic Westside market. The selection of vendors covers all the basic staples for scratch cooking and a nice variety of specialty items and absolutely beautiful pastries and sinful treats.
The meat, pork, poultry and fish/ seafood selections offer all the traditional grocery options at generally lower pricing as well as ready to prepare stuffed options and more obscure pre-seasoned and interesting cuts. The fresh produce always looks good and is priced much lower than at chain grocers. Make sure you're getting that you see; they like to pull stuff from the back for you that isn't always as nice or as large. The bakery breads are gorgeous. There are also specialty stands for olives, pasta, pierogi, nuts, spices, flowers, coffees and teas as well as ethnic food options.
There are a few stands to get ready to eat foods and a restaurant that uses ingredients from the market. I think this is more of a place to do your weekly shopping though than to go to sample Cleveland's best foods. That being said, I have enjoyed a fresh crepe and a brat with kraut before while there.
For a girl who loves cooking and entertaining, this place is fantastic!
