| - My girlfriend and I tried Yoshi Bento tonight for the first time. Many of the reviews indicated the gentleman owner was "rude" and I would have to agree. When you walk in it looks like you go up to the counter and order and then sit down. We were told to "sit down" and someone would come to us. How would we know that our first time there because the decor and the way the restaurant is set up does not lend itself to this type of atmosphere. Also, instead of saying "welcome", or "we will be with you shortly" we got the rude curt remark.
We each ordered the chicken udon and it was not served like anything I have had before. There are numerous recipes on the Internet for chicken udon and what was severed to me was nothing close to these recipes. The broth at Yoshi Bento tasted like fish although it was a chicken dish, maybe they use a miso soup base. There were noodles, a few onions, a few pieces of chicken that I could tell (in other words if there was ginger, garlic or scallions in the broth I did not see nor taste them). The bowl was a good size portion.
The menu is hard to read (copied over and over on pink paper) and the descriptions of the food items do not indicate totally what they are or are not.
We asked the owner (man) for clarification but we could not understand what he was saying to us so we were still unclear what to expect.
We overheard a couple sitting next to us saying how the food has gone "downhill" here (they had been there before).
The restaurant was very cold (temperature). When it is 35 degrees outside you need to turn on the heat!
The younger man who was cleaning the tables dropped the white cloth he had been using to wipe off the tables people eat at on the floor. He picked it up off the floor and wiped the tables down. Really - you are using a wet cloth you dropped on the floor to wipe down the table I am now going to eat off of?
Neither the woman making food behind the counter nor the owner were ever seen wearing any type of gloves when preparing the food while we were there, and because of where we sat we had a good view of what was going on behind the counter. Obviously, no one at the restaurant has taken a Safe Serve food class!
Sorry, based on the rude customer service, the uncleanliness of the restaurant, the poor menu, and the food preparation observations, we would not return.
