| - After some bad experiences with other dealerships in regards to servicing my Camry, this place seemed to be ok . They quoted the lowest price for a repair and said fewer parts need to be replaced compared to what another dealer had told me. I appreciated that, since its not hard for a dealer to find things "wrong" with your car. What I didn't appreciate was being treated like an idiot when they called to report on the diagnosis. I was told a host of other things needed to be done (pretty standard), but what really got my knickers in a twist was them saying I needed to replace my air filter. I'm not sure if they just thought they could sell me on anything because I am a woman, or what, but this was just plain dumb.
I have a K&N air filter - you know, the ones that improve horsepower and come with a lifetime warranty that don't need to be replaced, just cleaned and recharged every now and then. When I informed the service rep of this fact, he had the audacity to ask "are you sure?" Yes, I am sure that I went to an Autozone, got the specific K&N filter to fit my model camry, and have been cleaning and recharging the filter as needed for the last three years. My response was "are you sure your guy even checked the filter?" The rep said that the diagnostic was performed by someone who was allegedly his best guy, who he really trusted, blah blah blah. While I understand that some things they just try always upsell, it seriously undermines their credibility and competency to perform a diagnostic when they say things that make it painfully obvious they haven't actually looked at your car (or at least parts of your car), yet they still expect you to rely on their word that it needs to be replaced.
So, while my wheel problem was fixed (a little unsure of their repair given this whole story, but so far so good), they left a bad taste in my mouth for lying about something small, and then trying to make me look dumb when they got caught in the lie. Why someone would undermine their credibility to a client paying $500+ for repairs (who has spent over $5k in service fees in the last few years there) over a $25 part is beyond me.
Still, this seems to be one of the better Toyota dealerships out there, but I'm not sure if this speaks well about this dealership or if it really speaks to the quality of Toyota dealerships as a whole. If 3 star performances are the best you can do, then when my Toyota eventually dies, rest assured I will be searching for a car from a brand that can do better than 3 stars in its service centers.
