  • Although the Colosseum is inspired by the Colosseum in Rome and seeks to continue the Roman theme of Caesars Palace, it feels vastly more elegant than the casino, in my opinion. And it holds its own as a superb music venue. See, the problem with the Strip is, once you get into the heart of the casinos, they all start to feel the same. I understand they all have different themes, and those themes are made apparent by architecture and decor, but they all still have that same casino-y, Vegas funk about them. I think the biggest reason to visit the Strip is to say you saw it. But I'm also a lame person, so... Anyway, I digress. What's cool about the appearance of the venue is the way it seamlessly blends ancient elements with contemporary design. While definitely capturing the rumbling arena vibe, it also remains exquisitely elegant. For my local Kansas City attenders, it reminded me of Kauffman Center. If anyone else happens to visit KC, don't miss a performance at Kauffman. The technical aspects of the stage itself are beyond my extreme level of understanding, but there are lots of moving parts and presentation elements happening, as well as showcasing a large arch and video board. Honestly, it feels Grammys-esque. More important than the paint and chairs, though, are the acoustics. Again, the Colosseum delivers and certainly has the best sound balance of anywhere I've seen a concert. Of course, this is precisely how it SHOULD be, considering it's a venue housing top performers. I don't know if it's an engineering feat or an auditory accomplishment, or what (I wish I had worked stage staff in high school because it always seemed interesting). But the clarity and balance is awesome. Capacity is somewhere above 4,000, and entering and exiting is a relatively painless endeavor. Pro tip: leave before the encore to beat crowds. I hate encores; I already complimented you by paying to see you, so I'm not begging you to come out and play more songs, Mr. or Ms. Performer. I would center a trip to Vegas (I mean, Paradise, NV :P) around seeing a show here. Acoustics: 5/5 Appearance: 4.5/5 Ability to briefly let you forget you're in Vegas: 4/5s
