Hiring bullies is a confirmed practice now. I took my almost 3yo son for his first skate here over the 2014 Labor Day weekend. I have no issue with the progress of the renovation and can overlook the lackluster service at the administration and skate rental counter. I don't expect much. But when my son wanted to rest on his first round, I stowed away in one of the benches opposite of the rink entrance. I was notified by one of the young monitors that I could not stay on the bench. I explained my son was just resting and we would move along soon. He insisted that I vacate immediately staring me down and actually clinching his jaw. Asking for further clarification from the operations manager, 'Phil' explained they had been hit with a lawsuit because some kid closed the door on their own hand last year. He further clarified that safety was his primary concern. I get it...I also pointed out I am a bigger safety problem by kneeling to stop in the middle of the ice with my son. For those of you with children, you understand a legitimate call for a break is not negotiable...especially as I try to create a good first experience for him. I explained this to Phil, adding that the safest thing to do was to take everyone off the ice...it has to be balanced with the experience designing it to have customers coming back. I won't be back...not as long as they are hiring juvenile bullies as their employees. If safety were really a concern, how much first aid training did these guys receive?
