  • OK, but there are nicer places around. I stayed here with my wife and daughter January 13-18. This was our third stay over the last few years, but the first since the renovation and switch to the Curio brand. First the positives: 1) The grounds are absolutely beautiful. It really makes you feel secluded away from the city. 2) The nature / short hiking trails are great, and were a big hit with our daughter. 3) The staff were very helpful and friendly. They were happy to offer rides on the golf carts, refused tips, and never failed to smile and wave as we passed them on the trails around the resort. 4) The newly renovated rooms look great and are a nice update to the prior aging decor. 5) They allow you the option of self-parking for free. Now the negatives: 1) A note for HHonors Members: I did not receive an upgrade as a HHonors Diamond member (no big deal, but no acknowledgement of it either). The Hilton website (and mobile app) detail the hotel benefits to expect at a Curio. This hotel does not follow those guidelines. Instead of complementary breakfast for each day of the stay, they offer a single drink voucher. A single drink voucher...for two adults. Evidently HHonors benefits are now being used a ruse to entice guests to spend money at the hotel bar. 2) The room renovations, while nice looking, lose their luster when living in the room for several days. The stone floors look great in pictures, but they are very hard and cold, which results in everyone wearing their shoes in the room. This means the floors are constantly dirty, making people are even more likely to wear their shoes indoors, perpetuating the problem. I did not get the sense that housekeeping made a point of ensuring the floors were clean everyday. Similarly, the new stone showers look sleek in the photos, but little black spouts have started growing in them. Others have posted photos of them here. 3) This was our first time staying on the first floor, and I was amazed at how much noise you hear from the upstairs neighbors. You could hear them just walking across the floor. This seems to me like a real issue when the appeal of the property is to get away and feel secluded. Being able to hear everything the upstairs neighbors do all week kind of destroys that illusion. 4) The cold water on one of the bathroom sinks did not work at all, and the bath tub drained was malfunctioning and could not hold any water. These seem like things that would be noticed if the rooms were being inspected even semi-regularly. 5) This was the first time we have been here where the weather was cool enough to use the fireplace. The placard by the fireplace indicated the fireplace is cleaned and your firewood replenished everyday. This did not happen, and I had to call down to have some more wood delivered when we ran out on Day 3. Again, the property is gorgeous, but the accommodations themselves are a letdown. If you value feeling like you are getting out into the wilderness, it's a good option. For us, however, we will likely go to the Four Seasons at Troon North the next time we are in the area. It's a little more compact, but the rooms feel nicer and it is almost adjacent to Pinnacle Peak.
