  • Oh Patties. I'm amazed I've never written a review in all of the years I've frequented Patties. I was recently in for the first time in a couple of years. It's still the same small hole in the wall bar that it's been since I've been old enough to drink (over a decade and I'm sure even longer than that). I did mention it's small so if you're not one to be shoulder to shoulder with others on a busy weekend night or you can't stand social drinkers who may sometimes act a fool or start random conversation with you, you might want to check it out on a slower night or avoid it all together. Patties has become an Old Town staple for me. Whether you're pre-gaming it there or ending the night it's almost one of those must haves when you're in the area. The staff is terrific and they have been for years. If I knew them personally, I'd know more but what I do know is this, I recognized at least 3 faces from my last visit in which had to be back in 2015 and they were just as accommodating now as they were then. Just a heads up the bar areas do get busy and they don't have glasses or all inside items in the patio bar area. They are all pretty good about managing their area though so just be patient and I can guarantee you that the bartenders aren't the type to see through or look past you, they tend to be good about knowing who arrived to the bar first and helping everyone out as quickly as possible. There are pool tables, darts, a dance floor, a pole and music. I wouldn't call the DJ a "DJ" but whoever is in the booth is making sure the music stays strong though requests are extremely difficult to make and probably not encouraged. I've written on a dollar or two and added it to the many notes that wallpaper their inside bar area, though I can't find the obscene ones I wrote in 2006-2011 block but I'm sure it's still buried up there somewhere. Anyway, for the area, I suppose one might call it a dive bar. I'm sure that's what it's considered. I'd feel no shame coming in comfy or showing up fancy. I dig this place and I feel like most people do.
