| - So this incident happened fifteen minutes ago.
I've been coming here weekly for over eight years. I love this place, I love Delores, and how conveniently close it is.
However today, when I walked in, I had two employees gawking at my chest for a prolonged period of time. I wore a white t-shirt and went braless since I'd just left my house -- but that is NO INVITATION TO BE HARASSED. I felt extremely uncomfortable. When I purchased my items, a man by the name of Darnell (one of the employees who kept staring) made a remark that made me feel disgusted. He said "I like your shirt" whilst staring at my chest with a enormous smirk on his face. I uncomfortably said "Thanks" and just wanted to get my items and leave. But then to top it off, he said "You know it's see-through, right?" That made me cringe.
1. I know exactly what I wore.
2. No matter what I'm wearing, that's no excuse to be gawked and harassed.
I wanted to cry and left the store. In my car, I called the establishment. A Hispanic gentleman answered by just saying "What?" (Honestly, who hires these people? So much for customer service). I asked for the supervisor... Guess who he hands the phone to? Darnell. Our conversation is as follows:
Darnell: "Hello?"
Me: "Who am I speaking with?"
Darnell: "This is Darnell. Look, about your shirt, I just wanted to let you know that it was see-through, that's all."
Me: "Who is above you?"
Darnell: "Uhhh... Laurie... But she's not in the office yet."
Me: "You quite obviously gawked at me, made snide comments whilst smiling, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. That is sexual harassment and I'll be speaking with Laurie."
I can't believe they'd hire people who sexually harass women. Men who can't control themselves and explicitly stare at customers. I'll definitely be filing charges should things be not taken care of.
UPDATE:
I called the owner Laurie and she blamed what I was wearing for the entire incident. She said that he was "caught off guard" and that she didn't know whether the situation was acceptable or not. Oh, and she hung up on me when I was expressing to her how scared I was to go back. I'll never come back.
