| - This is not your usual review. We are long time TJ fans; love the selection, love the camaraderie and helpfulness of the staff, but we wanted to let folks know that the employees of this store also have HEART. On April 16 or 17, we had just come from the hospital, where my husband's sister was dying from brain cancer. The sister had a request for Mexican Layered Dip and we knew TJ made a good one. We skidded into the parking lot at 1 minute before 9PM closing and an associate was at the front door ready to lock the door. As we arrived, she said we couldn't come in it was closing time, but we begged, saying we needed just one thing for our sister, very sick with cancer. The associate hesitated, took another look at our tears-swollen eyes and then let us in. We dashed to the shelves. The ready-made dip was nowhere to be found. Another associate saw us searching, confirmed it was discontinued, then suggested getting separate ingredients to put together ourselves. He brought us to the location of each item. When we apologized for keeping him from closing, he waved our comments off, saying he was happy to help. The check-out staff were equally kind, not a single scowl for being late. As we left the store 10 minutes after arriving, we wanted to give the front-door girl a hug, instead just gave her a big heartfelt thank you. She nodded her understanding. We made our dip that night and then the next morning, our sister was just delighted to break away from hospital food for her special request. She died within the next week.
Everyone hates those customers who come in at the last minute and then keep the employees from closing when they are supposed to, but not everyone understands that sometimes there's a very good reason. We want to thank TJ staff for believing us and bringing a smile to a loving group of people in the hospital the next day.
We sure hope TJ considers a store in the Harrisburg-Carlisle area sometime soon. We will be the first in line!
