| - Oh what?! A high tea place in Chinatown?! Found it on Yelp -- had to come. I decided to take my friend here on a Sunday afternoon to have some high tea!
Afternoon/high tea is very popular in London. When I was in London, there were tons of places that offered it. However, most of them are pretty expensive. So I guess, LaPostte's pricing makes sense. They have two options for high tea:
Combo 1: 10 pieces of pastries and 1 pot of tea (ideal for 1 person)
Combo 2: 18 pieces of pastries and 2 pots of tea (for two people)
You are able to share the combo 1 but if you both want tea, there is a $5 charge for an extra teacup. But you're able to get a combo 1 and order another drink and still share the pastries. Cause you know, we want some variety so that's exactly what we did. Also, I cannot finish 10 pieces of pastries no matter how small they are.
They have a list of teas for you to choose from but a lot of them are kind of weird. There's stuff like milk oolong and coconut oolong. What? Is this Lupicia? Where's my real tea!? Like iron goddess or high mountain oolong? I ended up going with their rose pu-er because traditionally, pu-er is good for digestion. So when you're supposedly eating 10 pastries yourself, you'll need that tea. My friend went with their iced strawberry green tea. They can only make the tea cold if you order the small size. Large sizes are hot only. Makes absolutely no sense to me but that is fine.
Let me tell you, everything was so cute! The place was decorated very cutely and the way they presented the high tea really reminded me of the time I was in London. The pastries were pretty good too. I especially liked their tiny ham and cheese croissant. Their rose pu-er though .... is really light. There was no rose element to it and the pu-er was not as strong as I'm used to...maybe because it's rose pu-er and not straight pu-er?
Anyways, they also have a wall of postcards and post it notes and another wall of small cubicles. Considering that my friend and I were the ONLY ones there, it would have been nice that someone told us what all of them were. I did read some yelp reviews about it and was hoping that someone at the shop can explain it to me but I had to ask about it.
Anyways, they have a bunch of cute post cards that you can buy. You can write a letter to yourself. You give them or you write down the address you want it sent to then you put it in the cubicle that corresponds to the date that you want it sent. According to the employee, it could be a year into the future, three years, five years, etc. You are the one to specify the date. That's assuming you still live at the same address right? Otherwise, it's a cute concept.
Overall, it's an adorable place. There is ample parking. Great place to chill and hangout. I definitely want to come back with my friend and just sit and gossip about lifes troubles. Not sure if I want to get the high tea again.... Cause between the two of us, we couldn't finish the pastries. I had to take some home to my husband! Maybe if I came with a group of five people or something haha!!!
