| - I was torn about the stars on this review. My experience with the vet and the nurse that we saw was absolutely amazing, my problem lies with the fact that I was given incorrect information over the phone.
A quick background: I was given a Queen by a patient at my work and she gave birth to 5 kittens. I already had a 10 month old cat of my own. I took them in because I couldn't let them be born on the streets. I called several Veterinarians looking for the least expensive option but that would still be a reputable place to go. Out of the 8 different places I called I was quoted the least by this location for the Office Visit and Vaccines for all 7 of the kitties (my cat just needed his booster).
Upon arrival everyone was very kind and the process into the room was swift. The nurse who greeted me was very sweet and gentle. Then came the subject of cost. I had told her the amount I had been quoted and she said that sounded very low but that she would go and double check. She mentioned it sounded like I had been quoted for the office visit for the kittens and Queen but not the vaccine cost (in getting home and looking at what I'd written down, I realized she was correct). Here's where the problem comes in. I was very very clear on the phone what I needed (I had called several vet offices by the point and I'd said the same things to all of them). When making the appointment it was made very clear that I needed vaccines for all babies and mom AND the booster for my cat, but it seems that maybe the message didn't get across. When all was said and done, I paid $100 over the amount I'd been quoted on the phone and that did not include the booster for my own cat. They offered to let me go home and call back to talk to the office manager but the kittens had been stressed out enough and I didn't feel they needed to stress more on another ride at a later date, so reluctantly, I paid the extra. Remember though: this did NOT include the booster and office visit fee for my 10 month old. We had to skip his booster because of the difference in what I'd been quoted over the phone versus actual cost in office. So he was stressed out for no reason.
That being said, the Veterinarian was fantastic. So was our nurse. Both were very empathetic and apologized profusely that I had been given the wrong information and did everything they could to keep the cost as low as possible for me, so in that aspect, it was 5 star service.
The loss of two stars comes from the fact that I had been clear in what I needed and yet was still given the wrong information. I wish I could say I would bring my own animals back to University Hospital, but I can't. Even with the great care my babies received in the exam room, the issue with cost left a bad taste in my mouth. If it had been an error of $25-40 that would be understandable, but $100 is a huge difference, and that is why I will be choosing to go elsewhere for future care of my fur babies. Out of 8 places they were the least expensive option over the phone, but in office, they suddenly became the most expensive.
