| - The only two reasons that I'm giving this place one-star is for the cute ducks out front and the friendliness and apologies of the staff. This place is NO RESORT. I don't know who owns this place, but they should be ASHAMED of themselves. The pictures are VERY deceiving and must have been taken years ago or photoshopped. They do not reflect the place. First of all, the parking lot is all beat up and needs a repaving badly. Then the exterior of the hotel needs to be painted badly. It is worn and faded. The landscaping was pretty good. And the ducks seemed to like interacting with the people. You walk into the office and you can see right away that it looks like it's straight out of the 70's or 80's. It is in DIRE need of renovation. They also need more help at the counter. The three people that I saw that worked there, were extremely busy either with the phone or trying to take care of people checking in or guests with issues (and there were a few of those). No elevator, so if you're handicapped I guess you're screwed. I don't mind climbing stairs personally. The stench through the hallways was overwhelming. The carpet and decor definitely need an upgrade. My room was on the third floor. I didn't see any stairs past the second floor, until I got to the very end of the hallway. I climbed up to the third floor and when I got there, the stench was much worse and there was loud music or TV playing in one of the rooms. I opened the door to my room and for an "upgraded" room, it was anything but. the furniture is at least 40 years old and dilapidated. The mattress seemed comfortable, but made lots of noise. But then I pulled down the sheets and they appeared to be stained. I went to the balcony, which isn't even big enough for a chair and doesn't look very secure. It also is in need of a bad paint job and the door sticks. The TV is the most modern thing in the room. I went to turn on the TV, and the remote was STICKY. And I mean really sticky. I washed my hands, grabbed my stuff and checked out about a half-hour after checking in. Luckily I was able to get a refund. The clerk was very apologetic, but it's not her fault. The owner should be INCREDIBLY embarrassed. This has all of the potential to be a GREAT resort if someone were to put the money into it. Mount Charleston is beautiful, and this and some cabins are the only hotel game in town. If I had the money, I would buy it, renovate it and have the kind of "resort" people want to go to. I hope they will renovate it and modernize it, because I would love to stay up there a few days. The 76 degree weather was unbelievable for Vegas in July. Also, no wi-fi, which is unheard of for a hotel at this day and age.
