  • Drove to Las Vegas from Anaheim on Thanksgiving Day. We had no idea what we were going to do for food. We, of course, were hoping to find a turkey dinner, but did not know it that was in the cards. After getting settled at our hotel, we got back in the car and headed to downtown (so much cooler than the Strip). We wandered through Main Street Station and then over to the California. Somewhere along the way, we saw a sign for the Market Street Cafe, offering a turkey dinner for $10.99! "Score!," said we. We could not think of a more perfect option for Thanksgiving in Vegas. Despite the maze outside that suggests you must sometimes wait in line for a table, we were seated immediately at a comfy table towards the rear of the restaurant. Service was quick and friendly. We did not have to wait long for our turkey dinners and, frankly, they were pretty dang good. All of the sides were tasty, but I was completely enraptured by the sweet potatoes, which is something I never cook on my own. At the end of our main course, we were (pleasantly) surprised to learn our dinners included a slice of pie. They were out of pumpkin pie, but I was able to get a slice of the custard pie, which I probably would have ordered anyhow. It was not too sweet, which is just the way I like it, and quite yummy. One odd thing: The menu states "cocktails are available 24 hours a day," and I ordered a glass of red wine ($3.50!) to have with my meal. The waiter told me it must be served by the cocktail waitress and would be a separate check. "No problem," said I. And, I waited, and waited, and waited some more for my drink. The waitress finally appeared, just as I was getting close to finishing my meal. She apologized and said someone else had called in sick and said she was the only waitress on duty that night and was being run ragged. "No problem," said I, again. The wine was served in a plastic cup, and, this being Vegas, I was able to take it to go. In addition to the decent food, good service, comfortable setting, and beyond decent prices, we ended up having a nice chat with the folks sitting at the table next to ours. We very much enjoyed our experience at the Market Street Cafe and, were we to return to Las Vegas, would definitely stop in again.
