  • A very special space, visibly focused on its only task - help gay men meet other gay men, and maybe have a drink or two, while having a close conversation, in a safe environment. Everything about Backlot - its location, its decor, its menu - even that entrance door hidden in a dark passage! - is absolutely optimized for the task, and suits the proverbial "gay bar" cliche. Which is not wrong, by any means - though resulting atmosphere may not necessary be 100% comfortable for the rest of the rainbow folks, less so for straight allies. And it is also dark and tight, almost claustrophobic... combined with fast and polite service, and rather elevated prices. Immediate parking is limited to the street - though just across it, there is a huge commercial parking lot, so things are not too bad in this department. While this location is not a safest or prettiest corner of the city, it is not outrageously bad either.
