| - The short answer: 5 Freakin' Stars!
Here's some info for the geeks in the audience, or those who want to know all the nitty gritty.
Audio: Dolby Atmos. The website says the Cine 1 sound system is 105,000 watts across 175 speakers. I didn't count 175, but there's apparently a bunch of them behind the screen and audibly more subwoofers than you can shake a stick at. It's crystal clear 3d audio, nonetheless and if a plane crashes onscreen, it will feel as if it happened 48 feet away from you if you are 48' from the screen! This one beats the Cine Capri in Scottsdale Hands Down. No Question. It also beats IMAX, unless they have upgraded the sound system since I saw Interstellar, which was a while ago! Yes, it can get super loud during explosions but it can also accentuate a single leaf falling to the ground with pinpoint precision.
Screen: The screen is 83' wide and 60' tall. So, it's not quite as tall as Harkins IMAX, but the wider screen area suits most modern productions better than the IMAX "square" screen.
Projection: State of the art! I don't know if it's a Barco, or a Christie, or what have you behind the glass, but the laser-powered projection is unbelievable! Unbelievable? Believe it. This may be the first time in film history that an attentive viewer might be able to discern 256+ shades of black! We just saw Wonder Woman, which was filmed in 65mm and every dot of film grain is visible. The CGI sequences are clearer and cleaner than your 4k TV, trust me on that. If you are a purist that longs for film grain and deep blacks, this is your E-ticket ride! If you are a CGI lover that wants pure, pristine, color saturation - yeah - the same thing applies to you.
The Bar: Yep. It's in the lobby. Grab a craft beer (or a macro of you prefer) and head on in. Yes, cocktails are also available. No Tipping is allowed, so I guess they are paying their bartenders a decent wage!
The Seats: Reserved! Yes, book online in advance of your desired showtime or be mad that you were the only one that didn't. Pick your seats online and get to sit where you want. There are AMPLE options for disabled patrons and plenty of wheelchair and wheelchair companion seats! Everyone mentions that they are recliners. Ummm...they aren't just recliners, people. These are like 4-way adjustable POWERED Recliners with awesome armrests (I dont think they flip up - I forgot to check that out) and giant cup holders. Unfortunately, there's no handy-dandy table that you can flip into place or whatever, but who cares? Popcorn and nachos go in your lap anyhow. If you need a table, you bought too much stuff.
The Aisles: Every row of seats has...I dunno...3' of space in front of it? You can walk in front of people while their seats are fully reclined if you have to do that! No turning sideways! What? Yeah.
Final Thoughts: Umm yeah. The future of cinema is here, folks. It's in Goodyear Arizona. Wish they had a dome, like the Cinerama but this is just as badass! Go. Now.
PS. Thanks to the Harkins Family for always pushing the envelope. Scottsdale is way closer to me, and I drove by the other Harkins on the 101 on the way there, and I'm gonna do it again!
