  • I am shattered at what just happened to my family at the Aloha animal hospital. I took a new born baby duck to the hospital for a splayed leg. He was 5 days old and his name was peeps. Our intention was to have the vet simply put a device or bandage on the ducks legs to try to fix the issue. Hardly a major issue and by no means did we think the worst case possible. So we took him in on Tuesday afternoon to see the doc. The duck was fine and had X-rays of his legs to see if there was something other then the tendon issue on the one leg. He was swimming earlier in the day. Ate a bunch of starter feed and drank water before we took him in. Doctor said why don't you bring him back in the am and drop him off. She said she will figure out a way to get the legs taped together and see if this solves the issue. Dropped off peeps at 8 am. Left his little overnight bag my 10 year old daughter made for him. Was instructed to pic him up after 2. All good I thought. Got a weird call from the doctor asking weird questions about the duck. Where's the mom, what are you feeding if, how was he acting etc. I thought there was something odd. I told her my wife will be there shortly to pick him up. She said why don't you wait until after 4pm. Odd? So then my wife gets a call. The doctor was talking in circles. My wife doesn't take someone talking in circles well. The call didn't go well. Know matter what she asked there was no straight answer. The vet kept on asking questions like why don't you sign the duck over to the wildlife foundation or something like that. My wife drove straight down to the vet. Come to find out the duck was dead. Don't know when it happened and why it happened. One thing we do know they did not take any responsibility or give any information on what happened. Not great customer service. Not great disclosure. Not a very honest approach. For whatever reason they killed our duck. My 10 year old is crushed. No description of what happened. No heart. Sad. If they could not handle a baby duck they should have said so.
