Shockingly good. First off, it was hard to find pho in Pittsburgh so I was very concerned about the shops that did exist. When I walked in.... I was immediately brought to the small street shops in Vietnam. Loved it and enjoyed that aspect.
Service was quick but lack luster. No real cordialness or small talk. Just sit, menu, and left. Spoke Vietnamese to everyone else in the back. Started yelling a lot too. If you've ever been to Vietnam you would know this is very typical of the restaurant world. Lots of bickering in the back and not a worry about what the customers think.
But let's get to the real important stuff, the food. I ordered the egg roll and spring roll to start. They were nothing special, of anything the veggies in them were a bit dry and old tasting. I also ordered the Hanoi pho as my main course. OMG! Loved it. So simplistic. This is true northern pho. The flavors, the ingredients, it was so simple and that's how it is over there because it is not full of expensive ingredients. It was pure in beef bone flavor, most other American restaurants go the extra sugary route, but that's understandable because it's to appeal that specific crowd. And unfortunately our American cuisine is packed with tons of sugar.
Besides, the point. Pho was good. I would definitely come back. I would also want to try the other dishes too.
