  • Around September of 2009, my mother and I decided to visit an old apartment I grew up at when I was young. So, for lunch, I decided to take my mother for some Filipino food at the Asian Bistro, now called Halo Halo Kitchen. We noticed there were a lot of flies in there, and the tables were not clean, with the food we ordered was pretty much left overs from the night before for an event. While my mother and I were trying to eat what looked like burnt leftovers, we were constantly watched by the workers and staff, some speaking loud in Tagalog and laughing. One person even went to the extent to refer to us as 'itos,' a term used for the indigenous peoples of the Philippines called 'negritos.' One lady, kept walking up and down near our table and was constantly staring at us. As we left, the staff started laughing at us! When we got back home, I called them to complain, and they were very defiant on apologizing. Anyways, I went ahead and reported them to the health department and the Better Business Bureau. To this date, this restaurant, have never apologized about their rudeness, and uncleanness of their restaurant, as well as their staff. Having lived in California for some time and exposed to the Filipino community, I have never come across such a rude, arrogant, racist group of people. This restaurant is a disgrace to Filipino food. There are much better ones in California. If you want to try Filipino food, try some of the restaurants up in the Mesa/Chandler area. Better yet, I would not recommend trying Filipino food food in Arizona.
