  • Nightmare service and experience(s) which have taught me never to rent from Dollar, Thrifty, or Hertz again, as they are all owned by Hertz. Experience #1 started with a perfectly uneventful rental in Las Vegas on October 19, returning on October 21. We are defensive drivers and always drive and park our rental defensively to avoid mishaps of any kind. Our habits were no different on this trip. We returned the car to the airport return location and the car was accepted with absolutely no problems. OVER ONE MONTH LATER, I started to get calls from someone stating that our rental was returned damaged and she wanted to make arrangements for collection. I honestly thought it was a hoax, because I got nothing in writing and the amount of time that had passed was so great. Long story short, the damage claim was real and Dollar said we owed them $141 for "scraped walls of the tires." The car rental amount was $134.16!!! I then got a letter in the mail from "Viking Billing Service" on December 21, 2017, stating that I owed $85.62, which includes a $25 administrative fee. So which amount is it?? We have since turned this matter over to our insurance company who refuses to pay the claim based on the fact that the car was received and accepted in good condition. Curiously, this same experience happened to an acquaintance of ours. Experience #2 occurred when I picked up my contract at the Las Vegas airport kiosk on December 14, 2017. Upon exiting, the male worker told me that I had the wrong contract (as it did not match my license). He rudely told me that I'm supposed to check my contract and ordered me to turn off and go back to the kiosk to get the correct one. (Keep in mind, I just arrived on the red-eye from Hawaii and was not feeling physically well.) When I got back to the kiosk, I could not find my license anywhere. I panicked and ran back to the kiosk. The same man was helping another customer, but I politely asked if he saw my license. He yelled, "WAIT JUST A DARN MINUTE! ONE THING AT A TIME!" The driver of the car told him that he could help me, but he refused. He continued to help her and make me wait. When he was done, he yelled, "I GAVE YOU EVERYTHING!" I ran back to the kiosk where my 81-year-old mother was waiting. A woman (Paulette or Pauline) approached and I told her that I was upset at the worker at the exit station and could not find my license. She immediately turned on her phone flashlight and got down on her knees to look under the car seat. She found my license under the seat. She then told her manager that I was shook up, AND HE DID NOTHING. I obtained the correct contract and exited with the same rude male worker, and he gave absolutely no apology, no words of sympathy, nothing. What a pathetic work ethic and total lack of customer service. "Welcome to Las Vegas!" I do want to say that the woman who found my license should be the manager. The man charged with exiting rental cars should not be working in the tourism business. Perhaps cleaning the cars would be more suitable, since he would have no contact with people. The night crew who receives the incoming rentals are always nice. Sorry, I'm not going to rent from Dollar, Thrifty, Hertz ever again. My Dollar Express account gives me no perks, since I had to wait for my contract and got treated like crap anyway. I do want to warn consumers that it is a good idea to take pictures of your car rental upon returning it as proof of good condition.
