  • With a business like taxi service, the consistency of your experience will most likely vary because the driver you get will make tons of difference and indeed I've had everything from the best to the worst. So before I discuss things that change from usage to usage like the drivers, I'll first talk about the factors that stay the same. First off the price. "Discount Cab" is a bit like "Best Buy" in that the actual name of the company isn't really a description of what you'll pay. Discount Cab is not the cheapest choice and you can fully expect to pay a pretty penny. Second, the phone system. The telephone number itself is a huge plus - it's one of the easiest to remember (you have to actually work hard to forget it!) One nice thing about their phone system is it remembers your phone number and keeps track of your pickup addresses so I fully advise people to unblock their number when they call them especially if they plan on using them again. What will happen after you call them the first time, you'll get an automated system that will actually give you the choice of selecting among pickup addresses you previously used. This is an extremely smart idea and saves a lot of hassle and time when it works correctly. BUT...having said that, the system does need some repairs and/or upgrading since over the last few months it seems to have become worn down and inconsistent. Two of its most common quirks is either not recognizing when you punch in a number (meaning you'll either have to wait for a live operator or call back and hope it works better on the next call) or more frequently, after you select your option, the phone immediately disconnects and you have to call back to double check if it actually recognized your choice or not. Last year I broke my ankle and spent many months getting around with a walker and found it was far more easier and convenient to use taxi service instead of the bus. By and large the drivers treated me and my temporary handicap with total respect and care - getting out to open the door for me on my way in and out, folding up my walker and putting it in the back etc. Even after I had healed, I still will often opt for a taxi over the bus when the situation (and the wallet) allows for it. Most of the time my drivers are wonderful and courteous. Every now and then I get the Nosy Nancy who wants to ask me 20 and a half personal questions which I really don't care for at all; I don't like total strangers getting all Chatty Cathy on you and asking you everything about your life. Some people might find this friendly but I personally find it intrusive and annoying. But as mentioned earlier, it's pretty much impossible to get top notch drivers each and every time and some have just been flat out horrible. Every so often I'll get someone totally clueless who can't comprehend the simplest of instructions or directions and messes up even after you've told them the same thing three times prior. But the worst experience I had was one particularly mentally challenged driver from the ninth circle of hell who called me twice when they got to my complex to ask me how to get to my particular apartment. Both times I spelled out for them that my apartment is on the outside of the complex facing the street and that they can't get to me by going through the parking lot but rather by turning on the street on the North side of the complex. The driver could not seem to get this concept through their head. So what do they do? I'm outside hobbling up to the entry to the intersection to make it easier for the driver to see me (this was when I had the broken ankle/walker) and I see the driver driving north missing the turn onto my street so I figure they'll turn around in a minute and come back - but they never did - they totally abandoned me and didn't give me any kind of call or anything to tell me they were giving up and just leaving me stranded. Of course by the time I realized they weren't coming back I had to call for a second cab which was a lot more wasted time. The trip in question was to take me to work and my work has a very strict attendance/late policy so not only was this inconvenient, unprofessional and unethical but that driver's actions could have put my job in jeopardy. So, ultimately while I do generally recommend this company, I would also advise doing so with a fair degree of caution and while you may not have to "expect the worst", you should still be mindful that "the worst" is a very real possibility and to be prepared for it just in case.
