I want to always support local breweries. I want them to be good, do good, succeed and become beloved. I want only the best for local breweries.
I want them to be a full clip firing delicious beer bullets at my gullet.
So...Desert Eagle is the most blandly decorated taproom I've seen, for one. The ugly pink interior walls don't make me want to stay and drink. But if the decor was improved, it still wouldn't matter - the beer is rough. Their best beer is probably their pretty mediocre blonde ale. The other beers range from middle of the road attempts at dunkels and brown ales to poorly developed IPAs and overly fruity ales. It's just not good. I've never met anyone who had one of their beers and said "This is great!" Usually it's a shoulder shrug and a "...it's beer."
The food is like the rest of it - mediocre. There was a time at least when they tried. They had a pretzel that was two soft and delicious loaves and a great beer cheese spread. Those seem to have been replaced with Costco frozen pretzels and nacho cheese.
I dunno, maybe people rated this place well because there were no other options in the area. But now that better options are developing around it, I think Desert Eagle is mostly a mis-fire.
Sidenote: keep BOTH your beer list chalkboards updated. Multiple times I've gone to order something from one board only to be told (like I'm an idiot) that they're out of the beer and get pointed to the OTHER board, where it's crossed out. Sorry I didn't cross reference both boards before making my choice.
