  • Had my first visit to this place today. Had somewhat of an idea what to expect from other Yelp reviews, and overall, everything went really well and I do plan on going back again. --- My massage experience --- My massage therapist was great. She had a very professional, calming demeanor. Her massage work was STRONG, but I came in to get relief from super tense shoulders, so I took every bit of what she threw at me because I know I needed it. She did seemed worried she was going too hard but I didn't stop her or tell her to go lighter when she asked if it was okay. She mostly worked on my upper back and shoulders, and she recommended next time I go for an extra hour so I can get more time on my legs and arms as well (my back was really screwed.) I think I will do that next time. Overall, she did a fantastic job and I was really happy with the massage. However... the music on the CD player was terrible. Maybe one in every three tracks was appropriate, but in general, it was way too upbeat for a massage and I am pretty sure it kept me from fully relaxing, which made my massage more painful. Someone did actually change the track at one point and my therapist said "Oh thank god" so I know it must have been stressing her out too! I laughed though, which broke some of the initial first-time-with-a-new-therapist tension. Please. If anyone out there is reading this, get some more low-key music. Being in a big room with curtain separators didn't detract anything from the experience for me. Everyone seemed to be respectful of the environment and it was fine. --- My review of the NVSM massage clinic in general --- The receptionist area is what you'd expect. Nice, professional looking. After checking in, I asked where to wait, and was directed to the "waiting room" in the back. I stopped at the restroom along the way. There was no wait so I was almost immediately called up, my massage therapist introduced herself, and as we were walking back to the massage room she asked me the usual massage questions (sensitive areas, surgeries, points of pain, etc.) Everyone seemed friendly. Here's where I address the not so great things about my experience. After the reception area, the place became noticeably less-professional looking. The waiting room is their lunch room (and maybe even a classroom???) Which, I get it, it's a school, but plastic lawn chairs and folding tables aren't the most welcoming experience. But let's talk about the floors for a minute. The floors in the bathroom, waiting room, and even the massage room, all look wayyyyyy overdue for a deep cleaning. There were spots that looked like gum ground into the carpet. They all bore "I would not walk on these floors barefoot" kinda dirt. It made me question what to expect from the rest of the experience. Fortunately, the massage table looked clean and the therapists put all the sheets and stuff on right in front of you, which was comforting to see. There was also a white folding table in the middle of the one room that had a ton of ground-in dirt on it. If I had to sum up what the place looked like (except for the reception area) - it would be "run down." --- Overall --- Give it a shot. It's worth it, for the price. If they clean the floors and change the music, it'll be a 5+ star experience.
