  • I've since moved back to Madison and Dr. Collins is our new vet. I visited her recently because my dog was having some sort of allergy reaction, and our vet in Chicago placed her on Apoquel for anti-itching. I didn't think this would be a sustainable long-term solution so decided to do an allergy test. Dr. Collin's price was 20% cheaper than the quote I got in Chicago, and she spent almost 45 minutes with us explaining every little detail of potential outcomes without pushing for expensive treatments (e.g. allergy shots). Turned out my dog is allergic to a variety of things, but most notable were oatmeal and staph! We had switched to an oatmeal based shampoo thinking it would be good for her fur, turns out that's what she was allergic to! And when she scratched, her skin broke and became staph infected, which then becomes a vicious cycle of allergy-itchy-scratching-infection-allergy-repeat. I expect this will be a long-term relationship.
