| - Basis for my starred ratings (which skews heavily to the food or drink):
1 star: Never again.
2 stars: Poor food, poor experience, extraordinary measures in order for me to come back.
3 stars: Average, nothing really special, nothing particularly bad.
4 stars: Very good, would definitely return.
5 stars: A favorite, one of the best.
This review is more like 3.5 stars. It's also going to be way more effusive in its praise than the 3.5 stars it deserves.
If I'm to be completely and totally honest with myself, this is a good but average Chinese restaurant. Or rather, Chinese-American restaurant, as the vast majority of the dishes are not traditionally Chinese but more Chinese-American (think sweet and sour whatever, Mongolian beef, etc.) Also, I can only speak to the lunchtime experience as I've only been here for lunch.
Despite all this mediocrity, I LOVE this place. Not sure why. I order the house special chicken almost every time I come. A fried chicken cutlet, sliced, covered in a slightly spicy brown sauce. Served with rice and a small spring roll. A small bowl of soup also comes with every lunch. Maybe its because the soup is on your table within 5 minutes. Maybe it's because you have your food 3 minutes after finishing your soup. Maybe it's because fried chicken in brown sauce is pretty tasty. Again, I love this place for its 80's Chinese restaurant kitsch, speedy service, and tasty food.
I can barely think of a cheesier Chinese joint to love.
