I like to give food trucks the benefit of the doubt because it makes me feel good inside supporting independent food vendors. However, Taiko Taco is making me rethink things.
I shared both the ginger beef and the pork belly tacos with my wife. Afterwards we both stared at each other with a "Is this it?" look on our face.
In terms of flavour both were simply.... okay. Frankly, I've had better ginger beef and pork belly in countless dive chinese restaurants. Simply wrapping tiny portions of ingredients in bland, gross steam buns and marketing it as fusion doesn't make them magically better. It certainly doesn't warrant the $12 price for three tiny tacos. But I suppose I'm paying for the experience and bragging rights of eating at a food truck. You got me there, Taiko Taco!
I'm not a mountain of a man so if I was left hungry afterwards, I can only imagine others were too. Did I accidently eat at Taiko Tapas?
NOTE: If you view this Yelp review on a desktop or laptop monitor, the image of the tacos is pretty close to actual size.
