| - Once upon a time, their clothes may have been interesting and unique. Now, they sell low-quality beanies--similar to the ones sold at Dollarama at $2--for $10. I would know because my friend and I were harassed by security for over half an hour. 5 minutes after leaving the store, we were stopped by plainclothes security who would not show us their IDs and who accused us of stealing SOMETHING from the store--what, they did not know, as they jumped around from the beanie I had been wearing on my head WHEN I WALKED INTO THE STORE, to items in our shopping bag, to items in our backpacks. Then, one security guard took the BEANIE THAT I HAD PURCHASED AT DOLLARAMA, told me it was from Black Market because it was the same as the ones they carried, and then told me I could follow him back to the store if I wanted to--no shit I was going to, seeing as he just stole my personal belongings. His incredibly sound logic was that if I had actually bought the beanie at Dollarama, I would be able to produce a receipt for it. What reasonable person carries around a several-month old receipt for a $2 item likely paid for in cash!? At the store, they separated the 2 of us and refused to answer any of our questions, instead telling us over and over exactly how we had stolen these unknown items. I tried to show the guards all of my belongings and all of my receipts, and I begged them to just review the security footage so they could see that, not only did I walk in WEARING THE BEANIE they were saying I stole, but that we didn't steal ANYTHING ELSE. I asked if he needed contact info, etc. and I was told 'we're security guards, we can find all of that information out by ourselves'. OK, big brother--clearly, they were on a power trip. And clearly, by the end, the entire staff had realized that they were completely in the wrong, but they didn't have the decency to EVEN APOLOGIZE.
The 2 'security guards' were complete incredibly degrading, and incompetent, as were the staff members that I spoke to afterwards. All I asked was for a manager's phone number, and they wouldn't even acknowledge that I was speaking to them.
All I'm saying is: don't pay $10 for their poor-quality merchandise, because you can find items of the exact same quality at Dollarama AND you won't have to put up with rude, egotistical Black Market staff members who are too disinterested to provide answers to the most basic questions because their heads are too far up their own 'cool' asses.
I'm not bitter, their products just genuinely aren't worth the cost and many of my friends have gone in and left disappointed. But this was cathartic.
