  • This place has a spankin' location overlooking the Fountain Park and Fountain Lake - gorgeous views from the near-floor to ceiling windows. The orientation of the place is somewhat interesting. It looks like the wall between a café and a restaurant was knocked out to make room for what is now Octagon Café. That said, if you enter for the parking lot and are interested in dining in, proceed to the dining hall. On this visit - my first and, given the location, likely my only for a very long time - the service was so very, very strange. I entered from the parking lot and walked up to the counter to place my breakfast order. It was 10:30 a.m. Yes - I know. Late for breakfast. But I was on vacation. So, there I am at the counter. I had already looked the menu up online and made my choices. When I began to order, the attendant cut me off: "Oh! We don't serve breakfast anymore." I was like, what?! I thought: "Well, why didn't you update your website? For the breakfast -- that's why I drove over here." Then she suddenly looked quite stunned and asked me, "Wait, what time is it?" Of course, by this point I'm thinking, "I am looking forward to writing this up on Yelp." Instead, I respond, "It's about 10:35." To which she responded: "Oh! I thought it was after 11. We're still serving breakfast." *enter cricket chirping* Yes. This really happened folks. I might have given her the evil eye, spin around on my heels and left immediately for a breakfast joint. But it was nearly 11 already. So I placed my order - an egg sandwich on an English muffin, a breakfast wrap with eggs, bacon, mushrooms and Swiss cheese and a half order of biscuits and gravy. I then proceeded to wait nearly 30 minutes for my order. I couldn't wait to get out of there. But what lacked in service was made up in the delicious breakfast. It was actually very, very good. Portion sizes were perfect - we even had leftovers. Everything was fresh and soft. The bacon was cooked to perfection, as were the eggs. It was obvious that these were natural, wholesome eggs. You could tell by the texture and flavor. The biscuits and gravy were tasty - a little heavy on the gravy - and also had little cuts of sausage in it. So if ever I am in the area again and hungry for breakfast, I would try this place again and write off the weird service as mere coincidence.
