  • I've eaten here, at the Bistro Buffet, once. I was taken here because my friend, a local, knows where the food deals are, both on and off the beaten path in Sin City. Well, I'm glad that someone else paid. The Palms seems like a nice casino tower. The casino floor area isn't too shabby, either, and the buffet area, right next to it, is bright and welcoming. It must have been welcoming because there was one helluva line on this particular day and at this time slot for the lunch buffet. I know I've got some loons who probably follow my reviews to scour for off kilter content. Well, let's go there right away. For some reason, the Bistro Buffet seems to pull in a larger than average Asian clientele, and it seemed that a chunk of them were locals. So far, that's o.k. Take note that, for whatever reason, some universities pull in disproportionate numbers of (graduate) students from certain countries. At a major Big 10 (yes 10, not 12) school, I ran into noticeable numbers of Greeks and Austrians. I think that it's partly a concerted marketing effort and partly a word of mouth thing. The same could be true of this hotel and the Bistro Buffet. That said, the Asian food offerings represented a larger than average portion of their buffet line. Why was this an issue for me? I don't do sushi and I don't even like looking at it. They did have some of the basic Chinese staples I like, such as lo mein and items along the lines of beef broccoli, so I helped myself to those. That was after stocking up the plate with traditional American food and other ethnic cuisines I tend to gravitate toward. I believe there was some Mexican food, but not much of it. The food I put onto my plate(s) was good, but far from memorable. However, it was better than the lunch buffet I once had at the Monte Carlo, which surprisingly was just on par with cafeteria food. I gave that one 2 stars. The desserts here, however, were safe and fairly good. The buffet was very crowded, so whatever service was conducted by a server (coffee, drinks, etc.) was a little slow but still effective. I don't care what a deal it was and that someone took me here. If in Las Vegas again, this buffet has been crossed off the list. There are too many others to try. I might have given the Bistro Buffet 2 stars but I'm going to go with 3 stars because of their deals, specials, and pricing.
